Moeller Unveils the Very Latest in Contactors

Moeller Electric has just introduced its latest generation of contactors, the new DILM range, offering highly reliable switching solutions up to 450kW (AC3, 400V).

Designed to meet the highest levels of reliability and safety, the new contactors have a wide operating voltage rating up to and including 1000V AC. Active safety features are inherent: isolation and protection against direct contact are standard along with interlocked opposing auxiliary contacts.

Four multi-voltage range coils cover the full DIL M line-up from 48V through to 500V, thereby greatly minimising selection and inventory costs. The most commonly used control voltages can be achieved using the RA250 coil version (110V–250V AC 40-60Hz/110V–250V DC).

Uniformity is a key feature, with the same single side-mounting auxiliary contact being used across the range, from the DIL 0M, rated at 7.5kW, 15.5A (AC3, 400V), to the DILM820 at 450kW, 820A (AC3, 400V). Additionally, top-mounted auxiliary contact modules are available for contactors rated up to 58A (AC3, 400V). Two side-mounted auxiliary contact modules can be fitted, one alongside the other, for DIL 3M80 to DILM820 units. Up to eight auxiliary contacts can be fitted in this way.

DILM contactors are designed to be integrated with Moeller's advanced PKZM and NZM circuit breakers, and together they offer tailor-made switchgear assemblies to satisfy a wide range of customer requirements. For example, the DILM/PKZM0 combination is able to cover the most common motor starter applications, be they of Type I or Type II coordination, with the bare minimum of additional plug-in components.

The tough and durable contactors are not only suitable for standard AC-3 motor switching operation, but they are also ideally suited to demanding AC-4 motor inching applications.

For larger units rated 185A and upwards the DILM contactor's pick-up power is 79% less than that of conventional contactors, allowing smaller control transformers and a low actuator contact load. The required sealing power has been reduced by 96%, considerably reducing the amount of heat produced in the housing. The DILM contacts are actuated at the optimum speed thus increasing switching capacity and service life.

Three actuating options are available: classical, as in the past by connecting A1/A2; direct from a PLC, where a single 24V PLC output can be connected directly to the A3/A4 terminals without any need for coupling levels or interface contactors; and from low-power actuating devices, which enables low capacity control sensors to be connected directly to A10/A11, thus allowing DILM contactors to be actuated directly even using unusual signal transmitters.

Moeller's new DILM range of contactors are designed for worldwide use and are compliant with a host of global standards including IEC/EN 60947 and UL/CSA.
