Application Story

A Landmark Project for Moeller Electric!

[photgraph of XBoard unit]London's tallest riverside residential building and newest Docklands landmark, the Ontario Tower, is being equipped throughout with Moeller Electric's innovative XBoard consumer units. The Ontario Tower, a Ballymore development, soars 30 storeys above the Thames and features six penthouses plus 260 luxury apartments, each of which is provided with an individual XBoard split-load consumer unit.

Linked to the residential tower is a new Radisson four-star hotel which has a total of 169 guest rooms. Again, each room is provided with its own XBoard consumer unit, bringing the total number of units used for the project to well over 400. For the apartments, consumer units with insulating enclosures were selected while, in the hotel, metal-clad types are being installed.

"For a project of this size, we naturally choose the equipment we use with particular care," said David Purvey, Electrical Contracts Engineer for Briggs and Forrester, the project's main electrical contractor. "And there were many features of the Moeller Electric XBoard which impressed us."

"For example," he continued, "the preformed knockouts and ample wiring space make the units fast and straightforward to install. The breakers have clear, bright colour coding making them easy to identify, and there are plenty of options for future upgrading. The units are also excellent value for money - in fact, they offer a combination of value and quality which I consider to be unbeatable."

The modern aesthetically pleasing design of the XBoard consumer units is a further benefit in this prestigious application, as is the complete shrouding of all live parts which guarantees maximum safety. The forked busbar also maximises the reliability of connections to the installed protective devices, ensuring that the units will give long dependable service.

Moeller Electric XBoard consumer units of the type used in the Ontario Tower project are available with up to 18 ways in standard versions, and with up to 16 ways in split-load types. All models have busbars rated at 100A and, for split load boards, the bars can easily be cut to suit the number of RCD-protected ways. The generously sized earth and neutral terminal blocks are also rated at a full 100A.
