Moeller’s Boards Help Make The Lodge Luxurious

[photgraph of Moeller boards] Versatility, value and convenience are just some of the reasons that distribution gear from Moeller Electric was chosen by Evans Electrical for The Lodge, an innovative new hotel development in Cardiff. The Lodge, Cardiff is the first in a new generation of hotels which have been specifically designed to combine luxurious accommodation with very competitive room rates.

To support this concept, comprehensive room services, including power showers and air conditioning, are provided, making a dependable and flexible electrical distribution installation essential for the success of the project. These requirements are being met by systems based exclusively on Moeller Electric equipment.

The main incoming supply for The Lodge feeds a three-phase 12-way Moeller MCCB panel board, which is equipped with a 630A busbar system. This board features a compact space-saving design, yet it provides a generous amount of internal space for wiring. As it was necessary to terminate cables up to 185mm² in the board, the large wiring space was an important benefit.

Other benefits included the ability to use breakers with the same frame size for all outgoing ways, which simplified layout and assembly, and the capacity of the board to accommodate the main supply metering equipment, which eliminated the need for a separate metering panel and its associated wiring.

For the individual guest rooms, a distribution board was required which could not only accommodate the protective devices, but also the contactors needed to provide guests with centralised control over their room lighting.

Moeller FGA single-phase A-type MCB distribution boards, used in conjunction with matching modular services boxes, provided a complete and cost-effective solution. At The Lodge, twenty-five of these versatile boards are installed, each serving two guest rooms.

Moeller distribution equipment is also used to provide the high-current supplies needed by the hotel's kitchen, laundry and plant room. For this application, three FGB three-phase B-type MCB distribution boards were selected.
